Examples of Certification Requirements

  8-12 Math Certification Requirements

1. A Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited university

2. Passing score on the TExES Mathematics

3. 24 semester hours in mathematics or related field

4. Minimum 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale

5. Successful interview

  * Math 8-12 applicants must apply with Quality ACT as soon as possible in order to register for the Mathematics TExES. Please visit www.sbec.state.tx.us for information on test dates and locations.

  EC-12 Special Education Certification Requirements

1. A Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited university

2. Minimum 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale

3. Passing score on one of the following basic skills tests:

   1. TASP scores of 240 in Reading, 230 in Writing, and 230 in Mathematics; or

   2. THEA scores of 230 in Reading, 220 in Writing and 230 in Mathematics; or

   3. A’s and B’s in college-level Freshman English and Math courses or equivalent course work

4. A minimum of 3 semester hours in each of the following: English, Math, Science and Social Studies

5. Successful interview

  EC-4 Certification Requirements

1. A Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited university

2. Minimum 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale
