Grant for Candidates Seeking Alternative Teacher Certification
Discount LogoIrving ISD and Grand Prairie ISD have entered into a grant partnership with Quality ACT Alternative Certification Program. If a recommended candidate for a position in Irving ISD or Grand Prairie ISD is enrolled in the Quality ACT program for certification, they may qualify for a $1,500 grant to offset the cost of their certification program. The teachers must be seeking certification in selected fields.

Examples of Certification Requirements

  8-12 Math Certification Requirements

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited university

  2. Passing score on the TExES Mathematics/PACT test (Pre Admissions Content Test)

  3. 24 semester hours in mathematics or related field

  4. Minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale

  5. Successful interview

  * Math 8-12 applicants must apply with Quality ACT as soon as possible in order to register for the Mathematics TExES. Please visit www.sbec.state.tx.us for information on test dates and locations.

  EC-12 Special Education Certification Requirements

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited university

  2. Minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale

  3. Passing score on one of the following basic skills tests (PACT - Pre Admission Content Test) or meet T.S.I. requirements:

    1. TASP scores of 240 in Reading, 230 in Writing, and 230 in Mathematics; or

    2. THEA scores of 230 in Reading, 220 in Writing and 230 in Mathematics; or

  4. A minimum of 3 semester hours in each of the following: English, Math, Science and Social Studies

  5. Successful interview

  Generalist EC-6 Certification Requirements

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited university

  2. Minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale

  3. Passing score on one of the following basic skills tests (PACT - Pre Admission Content Test) or meet T.S.I. requirements:

    1. TASP scores of 240 in Reading, 230 in Writing, and 230 in Mathematics; or
